LittleHammer, Re getting stronger for throwing, that is a very short question that deserves a very long answer, which I cannot provide at the moment. In general you should be focussing on very basic weightlifting movements like Back Squats, Front Squats, Power Cleans and possibly Power Snatches (you'll have to spend some time actually learning how to do these properly or else just avoid them), possibly Deadlifts (especially if you are not doing the Power Cleans), Bench Presses or Incline Bench Presses with either a Barbell or Dumbbells, Push Presses, or to start with Overhead Presses with either a barbell or dumbells. Get in some abdominal work and lots of stretching as well. Depending on your backgound and schedule, either work out 4 days a week on an upper body-lower body split, or 3 days a week working your whole body with just a few basic exercises each day. Rep ranges should generally be low to medium for a reasonable number of sets (remember you are probably only doing a few exercises each workout). Always use good form. Remember that as a thrower your training will be totally different than a bodybuilder's and even rather different than a powerlifter's. For more info, just look through previous posts in the Training section and look for (or use the Seach function to search for) headings that include the words, Squat, Deadlift, Power Clean, Bench Press, Strength, Power, etc. etc. Note that there is a huge amount of information available both on this site and on the web. Google is your friend. Good luck and welcome.

Many Thanks Ingleton, I know of what you speak very well, I also do weight training using tree logs of various lengths and weights once every two weeks, This has really made a difference already. I guess its due to the lifting of the logs not being balanced as with weights, and its made me call on more muscles to help balance, than say an over head press. I guess what Im asking is,,should I use more weight and less reps more so than the more reps and less weight, to help with the strenghting part. Im just a hard core high rep guy,and its kind of hard to break! A huge thank you for the 4 day upper body lower split, seems like it will go well with what Im doing..thanks again "What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity" |

Depending on the time of year etc., you should be doing sets of 3-8 with your squats, benches, presses, and any straight leg or snatch grip deadlifts, and sets of 1-5 with the power cleans, power snatches, or full deadlifts. 4x6, 5x5, 4-6x4, working up to a hard 3x3, or doing 8x3 with 60-70% of your 1 Rep Max are all classics. Good luck. |
