The following is an article implies that for the Glasgow Games that their pregame party attendance is up and they do not expect the next day's games gate to be effected by high price of gas. Apparently, those who would have come from distance are being replaced by locals who don't come every year. http://www.glasgowdailytimes.com/local/local_story_152193747 .html There seems anecdotal evidence that athletics numbers are down due to high gas prices.
For those who have had their games: Was the paying gate (attendance) up or down? Was the number of competitors in dance up or down? Was the number of competitors in piping up or down? Was the number of competitors in athletics up or down? For those who have not had their games: Is your games looking to cut back, expecting smaller gate?
As for my games (QC games 4th Sat. in August), the local economy has been in tough shape for decades (rust belt effect is one of many reasons), so there is a fear that higher gas prices will hit harder here than elsewhere. Fear is that people will avoid even vacationing in their own backyard. Thus, there is some discussions on this issue but no actions has been taken. |

Sacramento saw record crowds, Livermore way down (hot weather), Costa Mesa was up, Modesto and Campbell coming soon... I would think that the higher gas prices would encourage people to look locally for entertainment, especially on the bigger holidays when they would normally venture further. Hopefully Pleasanton will benefit from that philosophy I have had issues wth athletes travelling, especially pros. If the prize $ is not enough to cover their travel, they're not coming. This may result in restructing the payouts by reducing the number of invites.
