These are a couple of great pictures, especially the top one. Great finishing position, considering the stone is already four feet away.  Note the rock solid left side, especially the left leg, although I am sure the left arm would have been perfect when the stone left his hand, as suggested by the second picture.  Chest is up and hips are fully rotated in the direction of the throw.  No pike of the upper body, collapse of the left side at the block, or twisting away from the stone before it has been released.  This is how you make sure all of your power is transferred to the stone, and is a big part of why Craig threw 55'1" that day.

The pointing is absolutey necessary, as the stone doesn't know where to go unless you give it specific directions.  Most people dont know, but the expression "dumber than a box of rocks" actually originated on a highland game field.  Often times people would short themselves several feet due to the inability to communicate to the rock.  Rocks aren't smart and without proper guidance will often confuse themselves and fall short of their destination.  Pointing gets this done, and is strong non-verbal communication.  Then if you don't stink eye the rock the whole way, it may become disobedient as well.  That's the real reason i don't reverse my stone throws.

As for the bug, it was truly wicked and no one would have dared eat it.  It was like half cricket, half stegosaurus, with a pinch of scorpion in there as well.

That needs to go into the Highland Games Bible.

Absolutely classic!!!
