Know exactly what you're talking about- very hard too not go faster when you're feeling good- I don't think anything beyond 90% speed is a good idea unless competing (and being well prepared to do so!)

Tuesday, September 9

Paused Front Squats (very controlled eccentric, 3 second pause at rock bottom, in lbs) - 45x8x2, 95x6, 135x5, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5

No issues with my hamstring, but decided that was enough for today. Turns out I do have some minor bruising that I did not notice before, indicating I definitely have a low-grade tear in the belly of the muscle.

Later:

A total of 1,300 jump rope contacts, in sets of 150-200. No issue with hamstring at all, not surprisingly.

Thursday, September 11 - 6:15am

Paused Front Squats (slow and controlled eccentric, 3 second pause at rock bottom, in lbs) - 45x8, 95x5, 135x5, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5x5

No issues with this lift, although hamstring is still very tender with any kind of pulling motion.

We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.

Shawn, forgot to note that I agree 100% with you. The problem with sprinting is knowing the difference between 90% and 95% and the suddeness with with problems can arise.

Thursday, September 11 - noon

1,300 reps of jumping rope, in sets of 100 jumps.

Friday, September 12

Paused Front Squats (3 second pause at rock bottom, in lbs) - 45x8, 135x5, 185x3, 225x3, 255x3x6

No issues at al despite second day in a row. Hamstring still totally injured for any form of running or pulling though.

Saturday, September 13

Did a treetop treking course with my boys. Bit of a workout.

Monday, September 15

Front Squats (2 second pause at rock bottom except on top sets, in lbs) - 45x8, 115x5, 165x5, 205x3, 255x3, 275x3, 295x3, 315x2x3 (would normally have done 3 reps but I was being very cautious given my hamstring).

Saturday, September 21 - 8:00am

Back Squats (3-5 second at rock bottom pause except on top sets, which were also rock bottom, in lbs) - 45x5, 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 255x5, 275x5, 315x5x3

Zero issues with hamstrings or anything else, although I might well be sore in a day or two.

Monday, September 22

Hang Snatch-Grip High Pulls ( up to mid-chest, in lbs) - 95x5, 135x5, 165x5, 185x5x6

Felt hammie just a touch near the end, but no issues at all. Should be good to go by the end of this week, I hope.

Sunday, September 28

Gorgeous day here, so I wanted to try some Overheads for the first time since July 21 (copied below). Started very easy and prgressed slowly and cautiously.

Overheads with 12# shot (in m) - took about 6 easy throws, 6 moderately hard, and 8 quite hard. Best 5 throws were 17.36, 17.24, 17.21, 17.12, 17.07, for a top 5 average of 17.20m.

Monday, July 21 - morning

Paused Back Squats (3 second pause at rock bottom, in pounds) - 45x8, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 255x3, 285x3, 315x3x3

Noon session

12# Overhead Shot Toss - w.u. + 16 hard tosses - best 5 were 17.91, 17.83, 17.81, 17.78, 17.74 for a top 5 average of 17.81

On my very last toss, I managed to strain my left hand forearm extensor at the instant I started to explode from the bottom position. Very odd. I have NEVER done anything remotely like that before! Zero bruising am minimal swelling so I hope it is no big deal.

Sunday, September 28, afternoon session

LOTS of jumping up stairs and a bit onto a 38" box. Only up 4 stairs, easily and with minimal squat upon landing from a short approach, and also up 4 stair from a paused static squat with no arm action, landing in a deep quarter squat (MUCH harder). So not getting much from the approach and/or just wimping out regarding the landing. First time in quite a while though!

Zero issues with hamstring, as expected.

We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.

Sunday, October 5

Sntach-Grip High Pulls (from floor up to at least mid-chest, in lbs) - 135x5x2, 185x5x2, 205xugh!

First time doing these since I pulled my left hamstring a month or so ago. No issues at all with 185 and it was flying up to clavical height so I decided to go up. Felt my hammie twinge hard on my second rep. I stopped instantly, but it was too late. Mildly reinjured my hammie! Ugh!

Monday, October 6, 6:30 a.m.

Hammie not feeling too bad, so I wanted to test it out doing some very strict Front Squats.

Paused Front Squats (very slow eccentric, 3+ second pause at rock bottom, in lbs.) - 45x8, 95x5, 135x5, 165x5, 205x5, 225x5x6

All good, but very tiring performed in this fashion!!!

I was on vacation in the South-West US for 10 days. Activity included a very strenuous hike in the Grand Canyon, strenous mountain biking, some bouldering/scrambling, and an afternoon of rock climbing with a guide.

Sunday, October 19

Nice day out so I decided to do some overheads for the first time in a while.

12# Overhead Short Tosses - several warm-up tosses then 12 hard tosses - best 5 tosses were 17.16m/56.4" (last throw), 17.06, 16.97, 16.70, 16.70, for an average of 16.92m

Felt great and no issues at all with arm or hammie.

Jumping up stairs at the Parkour gym with my boys. LOTS of jumping!!! Only got onto 4th stair, albeit landing in a solid quarter squat. Just not mentally ready for the 5th step.

Sunday, November 2 - morning

One hour yoga class. My flexibility is terrible in many areas. No surprise. Feeling my pecs (from driving my arms) and abs from all the jumping yesterday, which I have not done much of recently.

Afternoon

Back to the Parlour gym with the kids. More jumping. Mad it up to the 5th step after a while today, then was able to do that consistently. Pleased about that. Landing in a high parallel squat vs. a high quarter squat on the 4th step.

Came down with a bad case of food poisoning. I have NEVER felt worse in my entire life, but it was really only that bad for an hour and a half, not including feeling rather poorly for the rest of the night. Ugh.

Tuesday, November 4

Feeling much better today, with just a bit of residual effect. No big deal.

Power Cleans (minimal dip at catch, in lbs) - 95x5, 115x5, 135x5, 155x5, 185x5, 205x5x10

Light, but felt great.
