2/7/15. Sat
Worked on single spins with the 42, I had not done this for years but my coach Mike Melia highly recommends them. Did a bunch, did not measure them. Then went to normal 2 spins, at some point I whacked my right leg, and this started my right glute hurting. Made me limp, but not so bad throwing. Anyway hit 30' just throwing normal while speading up my sprint to the trig. It blew Me away.
Then went go 28#, and practiced long and easy with a definate sprint to the trig and at the release ripping it. Nailed 43', again it blew me away!
Went on to doing stone braemars. We then put tires where our best throws had landed then trying to be effortless and dunk the stone with a full aproach.
Fun!
Last was caber for just a few throws.

2/8/15. Sun
Threw sheaf, broke my standards and fixed them again. Went on to WOB and finished with hammer. Right glute started giving me fits with this so I called it a day.

Day 1 of MWC 2016 training.
Did diddley, then several sets of nothing then went out and did ZILCH!
Slept, ate and recovered from 2015 MWC.
Friday night weighed 198. Tonight weighed 211! Start back eating sensibly tomorrow. Was at Longhorns last night and a complete stranger looked at all the food before me and asked if I had a hollow leg. Tonight the FireHouse Subs people asked if I was really going to eat all this! This is why I say I would have not made 198 if God had not been with me, I am a glutton.

Day 6. 10/2/2015
Going to add in a stretching program, I am real tight especially the back and hips. Going to research some yoga moves and incorporate them.
Today was speed day, broke out the Tendo and started light. Several years ago I had a 12 pound sheaf bag that I could clear 30' with. I put the Tendo on it and found that a speed of 3 meters per second was required to clear 30'.
Did it in the gym with the sheaf master 2000 and a 25 pound dumbell.

Tendo Sheaf Average speed 2.75, average power 1396, max speed 4.7, max power 2397

Day 7. 10/3/2015. Sat
I need to build back all the strength I lost while getting down under 200. My current maxes in the gym are my warm up weights 9 months ago. While at the same time staying between 205 and 210. Today I started the 36 eggs a day routine. Vince Gironda popularized this in the 60's. I have done it twice in my life and always built quality muscle. I have never done it at this light bodyweight and this weak.
AM
Threw 32# WFD. Worked on hitting the positions, 20# WFD was the same. Hit 33'7" & 43'. Then WOB with the 32# cleared 13'6".
The remainder of the day will be chores and digesting eggs. Tomorrow will be a rest day.

10/6/16
PM 1 arm snatch 75 x 4, 80 x 4, 85 x 4, 90 x 3, 80 x 4
Hatfield Squats 225 x 4, 365 x 4 for four, 390 x 2, 440 x 2, 365 x 8
Ulfs 195 x 3, 195 x 3, 195 x 3 get in a mid squat position with SSB and jump, land in mid squat position.
10/8/16
PM Sheaf left hand versus right. Both cleared 22'. Left hand is much more consistent.
42# WOB practice, then took the family bowling.

Damaged the nerves in left hand, have maybe 70 percent strength in it. Have tried to learn to throw sheaf right handed as this is the only event that is affected. Tonight used a figure 8 strap and was able to throw with the left hand. First time in 2 1/2 months!!! When I try to throw higher than 22' fork comes out of the left hand and sheaf flys off.

Stone Mountain was Sunday, I so love this game. I did not do well in my eyes, but the company was great!! Will miss my Brother Robert Blackman, as this was his last game as AD. Congrats to Randy on the win!
Monday the girls and I went to the top of stone mountain by tram then 2 of them and myself hiked down. What a great time with my favorite people in the whole world.

Sheaf went up to 21' both hands. Left is weak and right is awkward.
Practiced keg over bar, did not have a keg but found a empty helium canister, about 10#. Worked on my release. Went up to around 25'. This thing bends and dents to easy and will not be around long.
100# Rock. Pick up and waddle as far as you can, cast nasty stone away and experience near death. Repeat.
Fun times!

Saw where Susan had posted that it's been 6 years since Kay passed. Really miss him. Thought I'd start posting again in his memory. Truly gone but not forgotten.
Have not practiced much this year as I have been focused on powerlifting. Did a power meet in January. Had not done that in 15 years. My highland throws have been really off because of this. All the events.
Did the Dothan game yesterday, got to throw with some legends! Kent Durso, Myles Wetzel, Doug Ballard, Rhett Bobziene & Terry Smith!!! Wow! The only decent throw I got off yesterday was a 43' LWFD. Really made me rethink my priorities. I love throwing, I like powerlifting. So started my new old routine today.

12# indoor shot thrown outside in beautiful weather, 7 throws toe to trig, 7 throws power stance, 7 throws in Braemar position. Threw farther in power position. 7 throws crow hop, and 5 throws from the spin. Crows hop went farther and was more consistent.

16# Hammer 7 throws 1 spin, 7 throws 2 spins.
Called it a day. Pleased with all the technique training.

Well tomorrow I'm going to start tracking progress again to see how long it takes to get back into better throwing condition. Have just gotten over a chest cold and am still depleted from this. But strength ain't bad. Main goal is a plus 28' sheaf. This would be a life time PR.
Father help me in the goals I've set forward, train me and teach me. For your ways are marvelous!! In Jesus name I pray.

If you can do it by season's end, I'll customize and gift you a new fork myself.  Deal?

See you in Blairsville?  I heard Eric Snow will be joining us as well.  Always a good time with the Snowman.

Tom

Competed in the Dothan Al. games yesterday, this is one of my favorite games. Got to throw with two of my highland heroes Myles and Kent Durso! Living legends they are, they both inspire me to dig deeper from within and push thru the pain that life throws at me. Dig deeper than I thought possible! Thank you gentlemen!!!! My brother in the games Tom Lawrence was there, wow! Pound for pound the man is a pitbull! Scotty really puts on a fine game! Scott Burnside was our judge and the comeradie was awesome!
Had a major life change here last week as I retired from my job with GE and took a position with a local hospital. This was to get me off the road and to be at home every night. Have been living out of a suit case for 11 years now. Have spent the last two days cleaning out the garage to reset up my home gym, going for core work in the AMs with it and regular gym at night. With a lot of throwing in between.
I did not seek or apply for this new job, the Lord had them call me and ask if I would be interested in a position there! I had been praying that he would open doors and get me home with my girls before they grow up and move away!!! God is so good!
So today was my first day at the new job, then home to work on the garage. Going to call this a test day. Tomorrow is chest and upper body.

Had my knees replaced in July/August 2019. Trying to come back.
Am ran/waddled 2 miles in 30:57.
PM PushPress 45 x 5, 135 x 4, 135 x 4, 135 x 4, 135 x 4, 155 x 3, 175 x 3 used my legs on this set. 145 x 6, 135 x 10.
Skull Crushers/ close grip press 95 x 10/10, 95 x 8/6, 95 x 8/8. This was done laying down on a 2 inch board.
25 pound plate curls, one in each hand 10, 10, 10
Finished off by throwing the 12 pound hammer. Hit 73'. This was a new knees PR!
Having to do everything in the backyard for now. Will start to migrate this weekend into the garage!
Been working at the hospital now for 2 years by the grace of God. Kids have gotten used to me being home.
Bodyweight is down to 223 and slowly dropping to 200 to help out the knees.

Great to hear from you Bill.  Took me a full year to fully recover from my new knees, hope your recovery is quicker and smooth.  Keep grinding, losing weight, and enjoying your wonderful family.  Hope to see you at Scotty’s games this fall.  Satch
