I'm curious on how others tip after receiving a tattoo. Set amount, percentage of total(like dining out), quality sets it? Do you tip?

Lately I've been running just 3 hour sessions at a time, I give my guy a $50 tip every session.

Just remember, your artist is walking away with 50% (standard around here) of what he charged you to do the work, which will/should be taxed, the rest is going to the owner/shop.

Their tips are like getting paid cash in Highland Games.

My guy was the shop owner.  I had a $300 gift cert from xmas.  After we were done(7.5 hours), he asked for another $350.  I gave him $400.  The piece isn't done, as we ran out of time.  I have to go back in a few weeks after i'm all healed up.

I woke up this morning thinking that I was cheap for not giving at least 10%.  I plan on making it up when we finish.

On a side note, he did tell me it would take 5-6 hours to complete.  He did apologize. saying he underestimated the detail.

I always tip, and looking back it seems to have worked out to 25%-30% over the charge for billable time on the occasion.  If that makes sense?

Late edit -- I once remember tipping 50% since the artist cut me a deal.  I already had the money, so it was going to change hands anyway.  She didn't mind.

^^^  Good line work!  You'll have to post an updated picture so we can see the shading once it finishes 'going under'.

Maybe full sleeve in the distant future.  Who knows.  That "itch" probably will come back.
