Highland Games - The drama is so high, because the stakes are so low.

Greetings all - Just wanted to quickly explain our math this year. In previous years we have used a simple system by the athletes ranks. This time around it created a pretty hefty gap from one team to the next, so we are using an over all team average of NASGA points. Without further adieu... Your Teams!

Sherri Sweet 4847
Keli Glover 4385
Liz Smith  4179
Sarah Densmore (2013)  3504

avg score 4337

Team 2
Juli Peterson  5848
Teresa Nystrom  5466
Amber Hoyt 4212
Breah Copeland 4149
Bonnie Steen (2013) 3998
Deedee Massey (no rank)  2763
avg score 4406

Team 3
Brittney Boswell  5705
Alison T.  5049
Tammy Kentner 4578

Team Three for WTC shall now and forever more be officially know as ...

Trig-Or-Treat! - Tammy Kentner Patricia Carrington Alison Tostevin Rosie Glover & Catherine Fortenberry

Read All About Them Here

Alison Tostevin - Our sole Yankee, a Mainer, she has been in the games for a while now and helps run a couple of games in her area (no small feat as you all know). Red headed and good tempered - who would have thunk it! She has made every WTC since we started, so an old pro at this gig. Best laugh in the games.

Tammy Kentner - Texas by way of Canada, rowdy humor and the keeper of the Team Mascot - MACK DAWG! After a couple years of injuries plaguing her performance some power lifting and a steady gym mate have her back on track to nail down some big scores, or at least some totally inappropriate comments.

Patricia Carrington - Our Elder Statesman and likely the only pixie on the field this year, freshly home from Scotland she is bound to have tricks up her sleeve! If I am not mistaken this is Patti's third year in the games, and as an avid soccer player she will keep us on our toes all day.

Catherine Fortenberry - our towering youth, while not our most experienced thrower she is no stranger to the games from years of helping her Uncle Drew judge and score keep! She showed out last year at WTC and I expect she will again.

Rosie Glover - That last name should speak for itself, a Glover is ALWAYS an asset to the team. Between swim team, BJJ & school - I am not sure how this kiddo finds time to practice for the games, but her improvement this year shows she certainly has been. After having her help with the juniors division in Tulsa I cannot wait to share the field with her again.

Highland Games - The drama is so high, because the stakes are so low.

Mana Nui (great force) used to be Team 2 and is comprised of:

Teresa Nystrom: Her ancestors have long protected the rocks and stones of Hawaii gaining her Pele’s favor, this can be seen anytime a Braemar or Open stone is in hand. While her affectionate disposition is heartfelt, a startling and surprising fierceness will appear when trying to out throw her in the trig. Strangers beware, she is not one to be trifled with.

DeeDee Masey: DeeDee’s heritage is  distinguished as her Ali’I great-grandmother married a Maori Ariki resulting in a long line of Chiefly nobility. She shows no fear and will gladly defend her mates with the fierce cry of the Maori. However; she would much rather enjoy time on the field and will approach all as friends, until they exhibit threatening behavior that is. She also has ties to the Celt belt and enjoys bringing all cultures together in victory or death.

Amber Hoyt: Amber is the teams Aumakua, often times appearing in the form of a Scottish Westie which is immediately noticeable by her friendly and warm exterior. However;  if team members venture off the path of success, she will quickly change her form into the shark and scare the ever lovin’ out of  said mates to remind us of the intensity needed to win the coveted TACS t-shirts. Upon returning to human form, she will sheepishly shrug her shoulders and say, “we all go a little mad sometimes.”

Bonnie Steen: Bonnie’s people come from the black lava shores of the Napali coast on the Island of Kauai known to love pepper and hate cinnamon.  A resourceful people, she is known to be able to build beautiful, garden lush villages in one evening and of having a cheery disposition. However; there is a fierce Independence to her kind and she will likely encourage her team to balk at conforming to society’s throwing standards such as not cussing (albeit quietly of course), spitting in public (for distance), and will encourage mercilessly trash talking all opponents.

Breah Copeland: Long a member of the ancient Koa on the islands. Breah has been competing in the games of the Makahiki to prove her athletic and fighting superiority, although with her leadership, the practice of sacrificing lesser warriors has been abolished. (Good for me when it comes to Hammer throws.) Be on alert as she throws the Pololu and the La-au-palau to avoid impalement if you are not far enough out in the field.

Juli Peterson: Juli comes from the Menehune people of Hawaii, sometimes described as dwarfs in size, living in deep forests to avoid as much contact as possible with stupid people. She is the Kahuna of Mana Nui and will ensure that her team’s needs are met; much fun will be had; and chocolate covered Macadamia nuts will be a plenty to be used as fuel towards their victory. She currently resides somewhere in the Midwest with her husband, Shrek.

Aloha y'all. See ya in Texas.

You have to stop doing that Juli, if it worked we'd all be doing it.

Scores are in. Edits will be done as issues arise and my time allows.

Thanks to all that made the trip and to those that worked tirelessly to make the games a success. Now... more coffee!

Women's Team Challenge was so damn legit. Anyone who wants to develop a class in your region, please take notes and/or reach out to us (especially Brittney). The whole weekend helped to reinforce why everyone keeps coming back to this sport time and again, and also gained us some eager, loyal new faces.

I don't even know how to put into words how amazing this weekend's Women's Team Challenge was. Off the hook? 2legit? Awesome? Dunno.

I DO know I'm incredibly thankful to the TCAA for hosting this party. It was like a Highland Games shower in that the amount of prizes we came home with overwhelming. The food and drinks all day and even the minute details like putting a cooler of water at the furthest throwing area so we could stay hydrated without walking all the way back to the tents.

The chocolate milk and fruit and bars, everything. The equipment was top notch and we ran through it as fast as we could while letting everyone throw in traditional order. My one comment on that is to skip it next year, I felt bad for your team Britt. Maybe just draw a name out of a hat on who gets to run traditional and the rest of us will be just fine starting with something else. So many long breaks to wait for us must have been hard on your team.

Mark, our judge; Jeff and his family helping shag and score; Duncan and Kyle helping on the caber. Having Michael Dickens and Spencer Tyler there to toss out some awesome cues was an added bonus.

You really took such good care of us proven by the fact that even after being out in the hot sun all day, I felt pretty good. Disgustingly dirty and tired, but good overall. Thank you so much.

I'm hoping this is where we finish out the season each year. It was a pleasure. Thank you again Brittney and Alison for the airport pick up and grocery store stop. It was hugely helpful. Again, all of the amazing prizes and especially those TACS shirts. Heehee.

Mahalo and aloha to you all.

Mana Nui...we'll be back.Wink

Juli - thanks for making the trip and the great feed back. Based on your comment, which was repeated by a couple of the other ladies, and our experience the next day, staggered starts are likely a thing of the past for TCAA.

We were off the field on Saturday by 5, all gear, all prizes, all trash - gone - like we had never been but for a few deep divots. With us running 5 classes and more than twice the number of throwers from Saturday, that will be the way we do from now on.
