2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the Highlands of Durham Games: https://www.facebook.com/BobWhitmanHeavyEvents

On Saturday, July 25th we will host a Masters Men’s Division (40+) and a combined Open B (Novice)/Junior Division. On Sunday, July 26th, we will host an Open A Men’s Division and an Open Women’s Division.

We have 12 spots in each of the four divisions open. First come first served. As always, there will be a waiting list. Priority will be given to the top three athletes from the last two years in past Divisions--but I must hear from you by email to confirm a spot by the end of February. LIMITED NUMBER OF SPOTS REMAINING.

We are eliminating the Pro Division this year. While exciting for our spectators, it represents the single largest budgetary expense. Our hope is to restore the Pro Division over time and also to host a Canadian Championship in the next 3-5 years.

We are asking athletes for a $20 entry fee per athlete to offset costs.

Athletes in our Open A Men’s and Women’s Divisions can be Pros but we are not offering travel or cash prizes.

Please let me know if you’d like to compete by emailing me at amazerolle@farberfinancial.com. Facebook likes and comments will not be recorded.

We will offer all athletes, judges and volunteers (from your families and friends) a healthy and delicious lunch. This year, we have a team of Registered Massage Therapists coming to work on the athletes. All athletes get a 10 minute sessions for free each day you are throwing or volunteering/shagging/scorekeeping. The Therapists will be raising money for our Games: $10 for ten minutes. You must book in advance. Athletes have first choice of times.

The top three athletes in each division will be awarded trophies and your names will go on the Bob Whitman Heavies Trophy.

All other divisions will have 9 events: Braemar Stone, Stone Put, Light Hammer, Heavy Hammer, Light & Heavy WFD, Sheaf, Caber, WOB.

Our Open B/Junior Division is a total of 12 athletes NOT 12 of each. Junior should be 13-19 years of age on day of competition.

Our Youth Division will have five events: Open Stone, Hammer, Caber, LWFD, WFH.

We are looking for Novice/Open B and Junior/Youth competitors so please direct this email to your friends. Novice competitors are NOT beginners. A novice for our Games should have at least attended at least 1 recognized Heavies School or two recognized CSAF or NASGA listed heavy events. Juniors and Seniors must have experience with throwing, preferably with one of the athletes ranked in CSAF or NASGA. We will not accept beginner Juniors or Seniors.

For Beginners and those wishing to improve technique, we are running our Kilted Power Training Camp over the weekend. The cost is $100. Or $50 if enrolled in the Novice/Junior Division. Our camp has produced a number of high ranking athletes in Canada and the USA, including Jennifer Paterson and Padraic Moore. Camp attendees will work with the Masters and Novice/Junior Divisions on Saturday learning, watching, measuring and assisting. On Sunday, you will learn all events. Time permitting, we will host a 5-event Games so you can get scores on the CSAF ranking board.

We are looking for volunteers for judging/side judging, scorekeeping, measuring and shagging.

If you are staying overnight, we can recommend some good accommodations in the area as well.

That's great that you have a junior division. What size weights do they throw?
Jim Dougherty

Ned Pepper: I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.

Rooster Cogburn: Fill your hands, you son of a bitch.
