Last year, while in Scotland for the Master's World Championships, I fell in love with the Scottish accents. Some were thicker than others and when Judge Alan Pettigrew went over the rules for the Light Weight for Distance, I honestly couldn't understand a word he said. This gave me the idea of finding a storybook for he and others to read for some fun videos.
Well, I wasn't able to make it happen in Scotland so for the 2015 Season I made sure to pack up a copy of the book in my Games box and away we went. I had someone read from the book at nearly every Games I attended and am still kicking myself for opportunities missed. I want to thank EVERYONE for being a good sport and having fun with it. The releases of the videos have been delayed because there is so much audio background noise that I really need to clean some of them up. However; I have the skills of a 140 year old and have no clue how to do this from the Youtube (in hindsight, I shouldn't have uploaded these to Youtube but there ya go, It's done.) If you know of an easy way to do this, please PM me or shoot me an e-mail at: jep6095@gmail.com. I released this one because Big Daddy and Hoss do a great job in projecting their voices;) Heh. So here ya go, number one of many: Big Daddy and Hoss reading "Goodnight Moon" to Zolk and Burger Lambrechts during post-Pleasanton shenanigans. Enjoy and feel free to share! Edited by C. Number Dos!
Petra Muller & World Champion Michaela Pennekamp give us the story in mixed German. This was alongside the field, in front of the Ocean at the Hawaiian Scottish Games in Honolulu last spring. They're adorable. p.s. thanks to C. Smith for his tech help;) Keep an eye out for his and K.O.'s reading

Bobby Dodd reads to his bride. (Apologies for the swim meet announcer in the background) Cynthia is telling him: "More brogue!"
Happy New Year to all!! jp

Ok, to set the stage for the 4th installment of the Goodnight Moon series, please view all or parts of this first:
Our very own Rhett "The Berlin Bomber" Bobzien vs. Eric Freedom. All mullet and meanness! Goodnight Moon read by The Berlin Bomber (with cameo appearance of our local Wonder Woman Victoria Buncheck in the background trying for a 17' WOB): p.s. I had tears streaming down my face from trying not to laugh the entire time. jp |

This was shot outside Petur Gudmundsson's home in Iceland last summer. The first time we went for dinner, I chickened out asking them to read. heh. The second night I thought, what the hell? I'm glad I did!
Big Belgian Tommy De Bruijn reads in his language (maybe languages, I have no clue. The dude speaks four or five) and Petur reads in Icelandic. Cameo appearance by Icelandic thrower Adam Jonsson towards the end. jp post script: ignore my horrible voice. Memo to me: don't speak on these things. |

Heh, he certainly sported the Viking look And thanks Duncun!! Ok, I have not figured out how to get rid of this background noise so I'll apologize. This is obviously newb stuff and I'll plan on something different for 2016. But the Pleasanton readings are too much fun to bag. Ms. Burton reads to the top ladies of Highland Games and let'me tell ya, they don't disappoint. I have yet to watch this video without belly laughs. Thanks to Adrian, Olivia, Stainz, Heather, Kate, Kristy, and Brittany for their fun. They did so good they needed two parts;) p.s. The Camera loves these girls jp |

FYI, I listened to this next one with my headphones on, seemed to be able to hear the reader better over the screaming kids
In general; however; big booming man voice can be heard over most distractions. Andy Vincent reads us Goodnight Moon (I promise he's not sitting on a prison cot;) jp

During some down time in Pleasanton, I was watching (aka stalking) Dan McKim in hopes of grabbing him to read but making sure I don't catch him when he's still competing. When I asked him to read he smiled and agreed (although the look of puzzlement on his face showed for a second or two;) and away he went. Afterwards, he said it he's used to asking his boys to point out things in the book and he kept wanting to do that here. Pretty fun.
Daniel McKim reading Goodnight Moon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oijfv0Kdq2E That smile at the end? Ya, I'd buy ocean front property in Iowa from him jp

If you haven't heard of Andreas Grahn of Sweden yet, you soon will. Andreas is a former discuss thrower turned Highland Games athlete and travels around the globe with his father, Anders. Anders give's sports dad's a good name. He's supportive, helpful (he shagged for us the entire day in Iceland) and both are a treat to spend time with. Andreas has received throwing help from the likes of David Storl and Scott Rider along with other greats and added to his strong work ethic, he's got a bright future in the Games. We've been very fortunate to spend some time with them both in Iceland and Pleasanton and I'm thankful for it.
Here is Anders reading to Andreas, Skyr box ready to go, in Swedish. This was shot sitting at our covered patio in Iceland (they were staying at the same Flats) and afterwards, he gave me an impromptu shot put lesson. It was awesome! jp

I'm old and hard of hearing, what's that you say???? If you haven't shared a field with Southern Belle Annie Marshall, then you've missed out. Annie is the epitome of graciousness. She will ensure everyone in her company is comfortable; have what they need and most of what they want; lives with a giving heart; and is a published author of multiple books (check her out on Amazon.) She has the classy strength that Melanie Wilkes shows in Gone With The Wind but cranks up the badass factor by 1000. I am in awe of her tanaciousness to always keep fighting and competing with her is an absolute joy. Being her friend is an absolute gift. jp

Thanks Britt! Miss your face! We're not quite finished. The wind didn't like Braidy Miller's reading but finally gave up and let him speak. Heh. I like the "sitting on the Cabers" effect. When I saw Braidy and Brent walk into the host hotel at Masters Worlds this fall, Braidy gave me a hug; looked at Brent and said, "She's going to have you read a kids book." Brent looked confused and honestly, I never got a chance to find him off the field. Oh well. jp

Ok, they say save the best for last, so that's what I did here.
First of all, when I walked up to Matt Vincent's stall (those who've been to Pleasanton will understand what that means) and told Matt I had a favor to ask him, he turned around and said, "Is it to read a book?!" Ummmm, ya. Pretty much but I wondered who'd tipped him off I explained the story to him, Alan Pettigrew and blah blah blah. He read the book (and didn't let the Grandstand announcer drown him out) and his ending is my favorite, it seems very Matt Vincent. THEN, when Andy walked up, I asked him to read and gave him an abbreviated story of why I'm doing this. Matt goes on to say, "Ya, that's the guy who told me what I'm doing wrong in the stone throw but told me not to worry, I'll get better with time" (Matt had already been crowned World Champion before this Games;) I lulzed. Thank again to everyone who read for us! I have some ideas for more silliness for 2016 but we'll see how brave I get in the asking jp
