Once the limit was broken, it was bound to happen. Nice work, Chuck.

That is actually his second throw, which I believe was 49+. His 50'5" happened on his first throw, and no one got it on video...

Okay, sorry this took so long. I always weigh and measure my weights before hand and I often use two different balance beam scales that I check with a 50lb scale weight. Obviously this is not a certified scale and with a record of this magnitude I wanted to check it properly. I also want to apologize to Chuck for taking so long to get this done. As many of you know I've had a personal tragedy but the day after my games I left for Texas, then St. Louis twice, and Salina, KS for various reasons....I have to work to support my highland games habits.
So the weight was taken to the post office in GreenTop, MO. It weighed in at 56lbs 2.96oz. Here's a description of the weight. The weight itself was made by Merl Lawless of Ancient Athletics. It's a steel case with lead inside. Merl usually uses rings on his weights and heavy chain. I personally like "D" handles so I took a Bobby Dodd handle from one of his 56's and used a lighter chain. This, in turn made the weight a little light so I took the ring that came with it and welded it on the bottom of the weight. This then brought the weight back up. The "D" right has knurling on it that is very deep. Been a lot of torn callouses on this one but I think it's a great weight because you can get a death grip on it. I wish we would have measures some of his warm up.....I think they went even further. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me at tvanvleck@atsu.edu. I will try and check back here but I don't get on messages boards much any more to keep my blood pressure in check |
