Do what the Sumo wrestlers do.  Do not eat during the day, then eat tremendous amounts of food just before going bed.  The reverse is what people do to reduce, that is , eat during the day, small meals, and nothing after 7 PM, well, an apple is okay, but not just before go bed.  The negative is that your sex life will go down to nearly nothing.  Depending upon how long you've been married, you may not notice any difference at all.

Whoa old man.  Not to fear, 230+ is still plenty for what you seek.  You'll be back in no time....

For those trying to put on weight.  Have you ever tried French Toast w/peanut butter on it?

I have no Idea what you all are talking about! I was just about to enter the 190 and under class (two spots that is).

I never have had any problem with putting on the weight. I am around 380lbs and 6' 5".

Thats where the BIG in BigdogEMT comes from!

I wrestled at 152 in college, so I have put on some weight.
Some of you weren't that size since 7th grade. I am told my
metabolism will slow down eventually. I'm trying to be the anti-
Pauli, leaving the distance running behind and pudding on the
weight instead of losing it.
Tim, best suggestion yet: French Toast and Peanut Butter.

overhead squat and deadlift. Puts on the pounds from tip to toe. Makes you "one" piece. I personally like the soul kitchens down here on the Alabama Nation. I'm lucky to live in the south where everybody cooks like Elvis liked to eat.

Good luck to ya Dave! - Jason Irvin

Eating before you go to bed has nothing to do with weight loss or gain.  That said if the sumo gains weight it is because of how much he eat not when he eat. On that note I think I’m going to go to the China Buffet.

If you what to gain Squat. Squat deep. Squat often. I think my weight is stable at 280

Oh if you can’t drink milk, drink Liquid bread. monster IPA (Never touched a supplement in my life!)

if you were to consume a high protein low-fat meal prior to bed, it might actually aid in the process of fat loss! Protein is highly thermic. A lot of work is required to take those protein chains, break them down into dipeptides and tripeptides (small chains of 2 or 3 amino acids), transport them through the wall of the digestive tract, and then virtually reassemble them as new cell tissue. That means your body's going to increase momentary metabolism as you sleep, increasing its caloric burn, absorbing and assimilating those vital amino acids necessary to maintain or increase lean body mass (muscle tissue).

G-man is correct about the night eating.  It won't neccasarily make you fat.  It may not help in lossing weight though.  All food, though, does have at least some thermogenic effect.  If you like, you could simplify it to:  Calories in VS. Calories out.  Are you taking in more than you are expending?  Then you can start to fine tune what you are eating.  You really do get out of your body what you put in.

This may sound like heresy to some but as you increase your calories try to limit you simple sugar intake and intake of "bad" fats i.e. saturated.  Oh, and try to not combine the two...ever.  This will help you control your insuline level throughout the day and will help increase your performance.  The one time when simple sugars are beneficial, preferably maltodextrose, is post workout.  By manipulating your insuline levels at this time you will use the food you eat to restore your glycogen levels and repair your muscle as opposed to storing it as adipose tissue (read:fat).

Here Dave, I've got a link for you to help you figure out how much to eat.  Beyond that the best tip I've ever gotten was to write down what you eat for a week.  You may find that you are grossly over-estimating how much you are eating.

According to this, I should never stop eating and should be eating whole
cakes with each meal. I like this calculator. Can't wait to show my doc the
results!
Liquid bread is ok. Personally I like the water of life in great quantities.

Oh, I had the same problem the first time I did it.  The bottom section is not how many times you work out in a week, it is how many times you work out in a day.  For most that is once.

The calories will be high though.  It is a "massive" eating calculator.  Most people are shocked by how many calories they need to eat but again this is if you are trying to gain weight.  If you are 6'5" and 295lbs. you'll have to take in a ton of calories.  But do you really need more weight at that point.  Hell, maintanence for a guy that size is already high enough.

The bottom line is if you want to grow, you need to eat accordingly.  Lift heavy, eat heavy, get heavy.
