Alright, so I’ve had some inquiries on my current food intake, weight, etc… so I figured I’d kill all the birds with one stone and make a post about it. I decided that when I retired, there was no reason to be 300+ pounds and that living longer should probably should be a priority. Since I’m 40 years old now as well, that seemed like a smart move. I had my last surgery in July 2015, and the rehab on that one sucked. Took me a long while (6+ months) before my left arm was even close to keeping up with my right. As a result of that, and just not wanting to dedicate everything to training through another injury, all my strength was basically in the shitter. Starting from scratch, and it was October 2015. I started using a 16:8 Intermittent Fast then, and continue it to this day. I was 296lbs at an unknown BF%, but likely somewhere around 18% if I had to guess. I should have taken my numbers then, but didn’t get around to it until weeks later. I try to weigh and test every couple weeks. Here’s a look at where I was, and where I’m headed:
It’s basically low carb-ish, but I don’t monitor ketosis or anything like that. Food has stayed pretty much the same the entire time, but I’ve tweaked it as I’ve gone and played with the kcals some to ensure I didn’t lose too much weight. I really don’t want to get any lighter than I currently am (255-260lbs). This is my Monday through Friday, every with basically no
variation. I start eating around 1100
daily, so my food up until dinner is basically lunch1, lunch2, lunch3, and
snack.
Lunch1 – 16oz of 90/10 ground sirloin. Most times I throw a little cheese on it. Lunch2 – 16oz of chicken and about 10oz of veggies. Lunch3 – 16oz of chicken. Most times I’ll sauce this (bbq, wing, etc…) Snack – 1 apple and 1 pear. I mix up the varieties, but it’s always an apple and a pear. Dinner – Varies* *Dinner is basically always 16oz or thereabouts of meat (pork, steak, tilapia, ground meats, chorizo, etc…) along with a salad (lettuce, cheese, dressing). About 3-4 days a week, training days usually, I will have white potato or a cup of white rice. I spend probably an hour total every single day cooking and prepping food, maybe a little more. If you feel that you don’t have that, stop mismanaging your time so much. Weekends are not as structured and I like pizza. So I’ll usually have one, most weekends. I find it’s a good reset, both mentally and
physically. I try to keep it mostly
clean on the weekends, but I’m not a total stickler. I’ll go out to eat if I want, I’ll have some
ice cream if I want, etc… I just limit
and don’t blow the whole weekend on shitty food.

Probably about where I'm at, 260ish, given how lean I currently am. Maybe I'll creep back up in the 270's if I'm feeling it sometime. |

Yep! I dropped from 285-240 ish and maintain it easily- low carb, no processed food and some fasting- still able to train hard! Turn 50 in 5 months (looking forward to it!)

Great to see you in such great shape Craig. I still plan to throw Masters and <200. At nearly 48 with all my body has been through +210 just isn't a good idea. 198-205 with about 5 - 6" less gut is my goal

really, it is simple. I was 276 on 3/1. Sitting at 247.4 right now. My carbs are likely way higher than yours as well, but your protein is much higher than mine. #differentstrokes Getting lean is just a matter of patience and consistency. I like cookies, so I still eat them whenever I want and I factor cardio around my food intake. If I want something yummy, I eat it then go do a 5k row which only takes less than 20 mins. It just comes down to what kind of work you're willing to put in. |
