This is my first post. I currently compete in powerlifting
but have always been interested in all kinds of strength. I
have watched every WSM on ESPN(due to reruns...some have
been watched many times). I have seen a Highland Games
event once or twice but never really got into it until
recently. I just found this forum so forgive me if any of
this has been posted before but I am looking for training
articles and how to get started. I am located in
Springfield OH so if anyone is in the area let me know.

Thanks

I don't live anywhere near you, haha, sorry, but just
wanted to let ya know, i was kinda in the same boat as you,
i started out as a power lifter, still am, and now i'm a
decent thrower. I think the powerlifting background really
helps with throwing, it gives you a really strong base to
start off of, so congratz for joining in on one of the
funnest sports you'll ever participate in, and good luck to
ya

Welcome.  Jim you might try giving the guys at Ancient Athletics a shout as they are more in your "local" area for possible training groups.  There are videos than can be purchased on the main page of this site, there is youtube and most of the pros have websites with pictures and video clips that are excellent teaching tools.  Best way is if you can find someone to train with or at least go to a games so you can see and meet people and ask questions first hand.

Thanks guys. At this point I am just kind of considering
doing this. It looks like fun and if I do it it would
probably be a thing where I compete in the winter in
powerlifting and the Highland games at other times of the
year.
