Can't be anyworse than here in Davenport, everywhere you turn theres a new MMA school poppin up. This is what happens when you breed pretty good wrestlers and then give them no outlet or education.

I heard somewhere that Probert used to be a pro or am boxer before he played hockey.  He sucked at it, so he started playing hockey.

I know a few guys that hung around Probert in the offseason and to say street fighting wasn't his bag was an understatement. He tried fighting with a few bouncers (@ different times) and usually got beat like a rented mule (is that better that a better beating than Rodney King, I'm not sure). The only thing I will give to Probert is that during these times he could never pass a breathalyzer, blood test, urinalysis or a spelling bee. Most hockey tough guys are just above average on the street, to balance on ice while holding on to another guys jersey while taking a bomb in the jaw and then turning around and doing unto others before they do unto you again is what makes these boys "special" (take that however you want).

Neis, would be DQued and barred after the first 2 minutes....he would be dragging the guy around the octagon holding him only by the sac after gouging his eyes out.

To throw out one for the Canadians and Red Wing Fans....Bob Probert would have been a thrill....he could fight on skates, imagine off skates

Curt Henning was a legitimate tough guy too, and a good athlete. With the right coaching, he had the right mindset to do MMA.

While he was alive, that is.

I forgot, I'd put a buck on Neis too. At the very least, it would entertaining.

As for Lesnar...he beat a guy who came in the last week and I think was 3-6 and could not recognise the names of the ones he beat....now we have to deal with all the WWE nuthuggers who think he will win it all and  Batista should go next.....

As for "pro wrestlers" that could have done well....the Steiner brothers were legendary for their parties/fights etc in college.

I would have looked for Brad Reignans (boycotted 80 Olympic team)

Kurt Henning was an alternate on the 84 Olympic Team...

The Iron Sheik had skills.....

George the Animal Steel

Chuck Jean was a 2x NCAA champ who got kicked out of Iowa State for as the story goes killed a deer with hinds at the petting zoo (liked to drink he did) he went to Adams State and won 2 NAIA titles after that.  He started holding fights at his bar afterwords...he was noted by teammates of Gable to be the toughest man he ever met.

Current real wrestlers....Steve Mocco (Iowa and OK ST) Ben Askren (MO),

Sean O'hare made the jump from "pro wraslin" to MMA a few years ago..  he is like 2-4 or something.

The big thing is you can have a tough athletic guy who does well under certain rules....when the rules change how tough are they

Seeing a former WWE star giving it a go has got me wondering which other wrestler would have made it in MMA.

In their prime...

Andre the Giant would have been interesting

Ron Simmons

Kurt Angle

Harley Race

Perry Saturn

Lesnar beat the guy in 69 secs. heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k63hOWLBhkY . not much of a fight, but still he reminds me of Matt Hughes of a couple years ago but 265 and tard strong. Regardless of his overall mma skills that will probably get him quite a few wins; even against some pretty good names.

Wow a "Rodney King beatdown" reference....ah Roy in his 1500 posts has not even made that reference.  Would have to check if Jason Pauli ever made reference to Valenti in such a manner.

Yes Weigle will go nuts without his luch pale....I am sure you would not want to go to those measures.....he supposidly ate his twin during a blizzard in the late 80's.

I just cant wait for Butterbean and Tank Abott to square off....LEsnar's fight is a joke....he will be the next Bob Sapp in that sport

How can you say these things about Mike Shea?  I find him very sweet and kind.   Violence is a tool of the ignorant.

what a great group of fights...was up in mount pleasant the night before Alma - if you go to Alma O'kellys is not bad.

Liddell got worked....

As for Hendorson...been following him since his high school wrestling days thru the Olympics

Can wait to see Brock Lesnar in K1

After Shogun gets in the mix then it will be time to get Matt Lindland back...

Toughest thrower without a doubt...  Ed "I'm-an-ex-friggin-green-beret" Cosner. I might fight him if I had a baseball bat... and he was blindfolded... and if at the end of my bat was a man-eating shark with a laser.

P.S.- ban the spin

Why thank you, but I was talking about the person who started this thread, he's the one who picked Rampage outright.

The quotes were to differentiate the athletes who throw in the games from all the folks who could easily be confused with softball players or bowlers.  I’m sure there are a few who could survive in the MMA world, but not the average thrower, that’s why I used the quotes… so I wouldn’t have to type all that mess… but I did anyway.

Also, MMA fans know the name Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, who was signed by the UFC on the 22nd.  I think whoever wants the winner of the Henderson-Jackson fight will need to go thru Shogun... who by the way has a win over the new champ already.

And by the way, I would pay to see any Highland Games "athlete" fight in the UFC.

I don't think either one of them can beat Dan Henderson, who like Fedor has about five different cans of whupass he can open up as needed. In fact him and Fedor are like whupass chefs. They just come up with these recipes as they need to in the ring.

I had only two Corona's after the Tuscon Games and watched Ed  (Storng Man Walk) Cosner pick up the "slighty" tipsy  A.D. and literally lifted him off his feet...and they NEVER touched the ground for a conservative distance of at least 350 feet over a time-span of 3-5 mintes of time.  IMPRESSIVE feat of strength , however I would still put my money on one of the old guns.............................Smith and Wesson....

Absolutely correct. There are plenty of guys in HG that can probably kick my ass but an ass kicking is just an ass kicking and it wouldn't be my first. Ed is the ONLY one I would be truly afraid to throw down with.

The 1st Jackson vs. Liddell was part of a tournament as well.  It was the second fight for both fighters and tho he doesn't make excuses Chuck did gas in that fight (with a lot of help from the constant pressure of Jackson.)  Liddell is the best in the world at staying on his feet as well as returning to his feet and of course his bread and butter is the stand-up game and looking for the KO.  With all that being said I still believe Jackson will win again.  If he attacks and stays on top of Chuck and takes away his amazing ranged stand-up there is very little hope for the Iceman to do much damage... much like Randy did in their 1st fight, much like Jackson did in their 1st fight after he woke up and started throwing punches.  This fight being inside the octagon will also help Rampage because getting in a clinch (again, taking away Chucks ranged bread and butter) will be much easier that a roped ring and you have to believe Jackson will look for the take down... violently.  If they come out and "test" eachother early we  might see an early Iceman KO, but if Rampage throws the pressure on him from the start it will be all Jackson... again.
