Skagit actually has an animal adoption area set up every year. They have been informed of the rules. Like I need another dog in the house.

Skagit Valley Highland Games

LHammer - 94'4" PR 1st - Started the day off great with all 3 throws over 92'. Small PR, but the first time competeing in blades. Still felt like there was more there, should have taken more winds warming up.
Braemar - 25' 3rd - Large 25# stone. Happy with the throw.
OStone - 31'6" 2nd - Best was thrown standing. Got some great tips to improve my glide though.
HWD - 30'8" PR 3rd - Another small PR. Getting better on these throws. Got some more great tips to work on.
LWD - 46'10" 3rd - see above.
WOB - 12' - Couldn't seem to get anything going. More work.
Sheaf - 20' PR- Love the new fork and got some nice compliments on it. Mike Adams got 2nd using  it. Sheaf just kinda rolled over the bar each time. The GO HIGH button is still kinda sticky . On my last attempt got great hieght but straight up and down still doesn't work.  More work.
Caber - I suck at caber. Way more work.

3rd overall to Brett Milton and Big Daddy. Masters threw with the A's and I learned a ton from everybody (took lots of notes). My throws have gotten more consistant all the way around and its easier to get tips and apply them. Looking forward to the Claw.

L Hammerx10 - quit dropping my chin on last rotation and pulling arms in.

Mens press - 1x5x65, 1x5x85, 1x3x100, 1x5x110, 1x5x125, 1x5x140

Easy throws to fix some problems.
Sheafx15. Getting it. Changed how/where I stand. Got the path ok and got the fork to do more work. Started hitting 24' consistantly. Thanks Jay.
WOBx15 Getting more leg into the equation.
Caberx5 - I think it's not so much timing as it is my release.

BB complexes - DL, rows, hangclean, press, squat. 8x5x70
pullups & pushups.

Easy hammer practice LHx15. Took the last throw and broke the handle. Gah... Was too damp anyways so called it there.
Been taking it easy the past few days, foam rolling, walking, etc,.I had slight back muscle soreness (gone now) and then a weird ab muscle cramp. Sitting in a chair, bent over to adjust my shoe with my right leg bent back a little and wham. Went away quickly. Will try wasy throws tonight if it's dry out.

Got a life induced deload as I've been busy with work around the house the last week.

7/26/12

Easy throws with stones, LWD, sheaf and hammer. No more than 5 throws each and low effort.
Lifted some weight. Mostly just screwing around. Good stretch and foam rolling though.
Goal for Enumclaw = Don't embarass myself.

Been up at WWU for two days helping my daughter get registered for fall. Tons of hiking and stair climbing following a competition was not planned. On the plus side, there was plenty of food in the dining hall (buffet style) for refueling

7/29/12
Enumclaw

Overall I was outclassed by some great competitors. I really enjoyed watching Mark, Sean and Lance put on a show. I was able to learn a lot and got some great tips to improve with. With that said,  it was still a win for me after 4 PR's.

Sheaf  - 22' PR. Still inconsistant with the new fork but getting better. (note to self-don't change anything on equipment the day before a comp)
WFH - 14' PR. Really starting to get the hang of this. Will come in later next time to have more steam.
Br - 25'6". Throws are more consistant but not really progressing.
OStone - 30'9.5". Difficult stone on an event I'm not good at. I'll take it.
HWD - 34'9" PR. Started with a foul on an otherwise great throw for me. The next two just got better (no foul).
Caber - I suck at caber!
LWD - 52'4" PR. My 1st throw felt great, PR just over 50'. I was happy with that. 2nd throw, 51'9" PR. Figured I was done.  3rd throw was smooth and fast (in my own mind) and improved it again.
Lhammer - 92'+ . Somehow I pulled a medal for this. Felt weird throwing from a platform and unable to really get a purchase with my feet but all my throws were consistant and in the 90' range.

In all a great day and looking forward to next year. Spokane this weekend.

8/4/12
Spokane Highland games. 4th overall.
Hot. Damn hot. Don't like the desert. Good day anyways. Lance Barusch took the show with some awesome throws, Eric Wechter and Ray Maybey finished 2nd and 3rd.

Braemar 5th - 25' 7.75". all 3 throws within 6". At least I'm consistant.
HHammer 4th - 75' 9" PR. 3 solid throws over 73'.
LHammer 3rd (by 2.75") - 99' 3.75" PR. First throw was awesome, then got inside my head trying to get 100' that I t-rexed the next 2 throws 90+, 92+. Ray got PR's on both hammers as well.
HWD 4th - all three around 32'
LWD 3rd - 50' 5.75". First 2 throws stunk with no fouls. Then got the third throw. Getting worried that breaking 50' was a fluke at Enumclaw.
WFH 5th (tie) - 13'. Over thunk it.
Caber - I suck at caber. Got a lot closer to turning it this time. Got to be quicker. Will focus on this after Whidbey games next weekend.

Long, busy week.

8/6/12
Didn't feel like lifting so flipped a tire around the yard instead. Flipped the caber a couple times.

8/8/12
low effort throws
Br & OStone x5 ea
LWFD x5
WFH x5 ea hand. Tried left handed after watching 2 other Masters throwing off handed. When asked why they explained that saves the arm for the distance events as well as making you use more leg. Made sense to me. Figure I'll give it a shot
LHammer x10. Working on getting the right hand/arm to follow through to the release better and keeping the chin up. Got some input from one much wiser than me as to why I'm t-rexing throws.

Running with the puppy around the yard
Mens press
Squats
Pull ups
Nothing heavy.

Whidbey games this weekend. Will be trying to keep up with Bret Milton and Eric Wechter... again. I will say that throwing with Masters has given me a new wealth of information at the games. A lot of subtle tips that equate to quick improvements. I'm finding greater consistancy in my throws and practice is generally more focused.

8/11/13
Whidbey Games

Absolute c?@! day (almost). Got out of bed with lower back pain. No idea why, felt great the night before and my wife didn't kick me in bed (she always lets me know). Good warmup, stretching, linaments, etc.. No relief. Threw anyways knowing I would not be doing anything noteworthy.
Surprisingly enough I managed to take 4th in all but 1 event (WFH) and 4th overall with last years numbers. I think my form has improved enough that it carried me through the day.
I did walk away with a good note, I got 2 solid turns on the caber 18x95 (1:00 & 2:00). Last caber I turned in competition was in 2010.
I'll take that and be satisfied.

So it looks like my season is over due to financial reasons. The evening of Whidbey games, as I was dead to the world in bed, some punks went car prowling down our road and some minor vandalism. Broke into 8 or 9 cars (both of ours), stole nothing of any real value, almost, mostly things like gum, sunglasses, etc... unfortunately they got the spare fob to the brand new car. Didn't take any of the change in peoples cars or electronics, and there was plenty to choose from. High end stereos, Ipods, radar detectors etc... So now I'm replacing the fob, getting a new key set and having a new lockset installed on the car, as well as having the fobs and car reprogrammed. I would really like to meet the kids in question so I can properly demonstrate my appreciation for their handiwork.

Anyways, figure I'll start training for next year. I know I need to get quite a bit stronger and I have a much greater understanding of how to fix technique problems. I think my short season went incredibly well compared to all of my others. Set PR's in almost all events, reached goal distances in 6 events and finally turned a caber again. In all, I'm very pleased with the results and have a solid idea of what I need to work on.

Bummer, Andrew.   But, best laid plans of mice and highland gamers and all that.   You had a great season, you got competitive in Masters, and next year will be even better.

Triple digit hammers for you next year!   Maybe I'll sneak up that way and spy on your hammer skilz n stuff sometime this fall.

And, just because I don't see it here, you got a puppie!

Back to it then. Gonna try out the 5/3/1 bbb 3 month challenge.

Got a couple good bike rides in after a 3 month hiatus. Much faster than I expected. Didn't pig wheeze or nothing.

Mens press 1x5x65, 1x5x75, 1x3x90, 1x5x100, 1x5x115, 1x5x130
Womens press 5x10x100
Lat pulldown 5x10x100
Would have done the other accessories but needed to work on a hydrualic clutch system. Bleh. Now the pedal assembly is a little jacked, but it's been a problem before.

Need to make some sort of harness for pulling it now.
