Modesto Games-6 events It broke down to a duel between Rusty and I Braemar Me- 43-9.5 Rusty-41-5.5 Felt good- my ego wanted to take extras but I knew I would need energy for later HWFD Rusty- 43-9.5 Me- 36-6.5 PR Not bad, there is more there LWFD Rusty- 80-10.5 (83-11.5 on extras) Me- 78-3 Huge PR PRed on all 3 throws. Glad I finally put it together. Would have been nice to get some extras :) Heavy Hammer Rusty- 96-7 Me- 85-7.5 I put one in a tree, had one stick to my glove, and I bounced one off the ground...Ironic that the high point of my last comp was the low point in this one- oh well gotta have something to improve on. Caber Me- 12:00, 12:00, 12:30 Rusty- ? results say 85 degrees but I know he turned it at least once Felt great. My best performance in caber ever. WOB Rusty-16-spin Me-15-stand I was clean through 15 and actually came down on 16 on my first attempt, both other attempts were solid- I will get it again soon. Total Rusty-8 Me-10 Overall very pleased to be able to make a comp out of it. Rusty has a way of making huge throws look very effortless. I think he has another gear in him. I am glad my lifting plan is working with my throwing. At 35 I still am learning what is needed for me to perform at my best. |

GREAT Games for you!
Those weights are HUGE HUGE improvements. You've got to be walking on air over that 78 feet! That's getting *Serious*! BIG Braemar stone PR's in both weights - SWEET Good heavy hammer even if it was the low point and 15 in the WOB is still no joke. You'll get 16 again soon. It's paying off!! Congratulations! |

Thanks Alan- just trying to get better little by little and having fun along the way. BTW I saw your thread on tapering- my advice is probably the same as others, when you threw far in practice what were you doing that week- then do that before your next comp and see what happens. I needed to figure this out for myself. I need to lift relatively heavy early in the week for me to be dialed in by the weekend.

John, I do these, but with more like 80-85 pounds and I do like, 2 sets of 8 with each arm. Left-right, left right for a total of 32 snatches. What are your thoughts on doing more reps with the lower weight, or doing fewer reps with more weight? I've managed one snatch with 100 pounds, but just one. Now that I'm doing more explosive work, I might be able to to something like 2 x 3 x 95 pounds each side for a total of 12 snatches... or maybe 2 x 2 x 95 for a total of 8 movements. Sheesh, maybe I could snatch 100 pounds for some reps, that'd be cool. What do you think? |

Alan- I do them basically for WOB. WOB is a one and done event so I don't do a lot of reps. I do them without wraps so that when I throw the 56 I can relax everything and know that the grip will be there. Also it reminds me that everything must be moved with the legs or you will end up with a slight press at the end. I have done up to 150 with these. I am not sure what works the best for you since everyone is different, but if you have to press it out, drop the weight so you can get it cleanly.

WOB is exactly why I do them as well. Well, I think the necessary explosion can't hurt for caber, either. OK, I'll drop the reps and up the weight, up to where I start to need to press them and see what I can do. I might follow these up with some box jumps.
I don't use straps on this exercise either, never have really had a problem holding on to 80's and 85's, and no problem holding on to the 100 the one time I tried it. Like you say, the whole explosion is legs, legs, legs. Arms are there to guide, pull a *little* bit and then catch. |

I will try to get video for db snatch next week.
6/9/12 Throwing HWFD x 6 LWFD x 8 Hammer winds Back got really tight doing HWFD. I was able to hit a decent throw in LWFD 76+ through a tree (video above). I think I should be a little lower on my second turn to use my legs more. Hammer was rough- back was really tight. Hope it loosens up this week so I can put up some decent numbers on Saturday. |

Loch Lomond Games Braemar- 41-9 Open- 55-9 - same stone as Woodland so I am very pleased with this HWFD- 34-11 -trig was not level which was weird LWFD- 73-4. Same trig issue LHammer- 117-4 pr -there is a lot more there, I couldn't stay back on it HHammer- 98-3 pr -same issue, and it was strange throwing after light Wob- 15. Clean through 15 and I just got impatient and pulled too soon thus blowing through the bar instead of going over it 20lb Sheaf-20 made it easy and went up for a PR and missed. I have to start to practicing this Caber- 12:00 Overall I feel that this was my best games to date. I feel like I hit solid marks all around with implements that are generally not conducive to monster throws. Can't wait for Monterey to be able to challenge myself. |

Thanks guys- as I have said before I am just trying to get better little by little and am having a blast along the way. It is more fun when you throw well though. I have hit at least 1 PR in every games this year.
Improvements this year from last HWFD +5 ft LWFD +10 ft HHammer +7 ft LHammer +5 ft WOB +2 ft Both stones +1ft Last year one 12:00 in caber- this year I have hit at least 12:30 in every comp. If I keep this up I should be good to go in a decade or so.. 6/18/12 Lifting Bench 135 x 5 225 x 5 315 x 5 385 x 5 405 x 5 Deads 495 x 3 585 x 3 645 x 1 |

"in a decade or so".....HA!
If you keep this up, you'll be throwing 38-39 HWFD... 80's + LWFD.... 125+ Light Hammer.... 105 Heavy Hammer... and 16-17 WOB by the end of next season. And that's, like...Pro Country, or "Super A's" if you want to keep it Low-Key. |

LOL..
...this year, next year. What, this is your second season? You might do it all this year. If it takes until next season to hit those numbers consistently then....meh...whatever. No biggie. I was thinking about consistently hitting those numbers. As a complete aside, I fret over this "consistancy" thing. This "consistently" thing is something I think about when I throw 10 Games a year instead of the 20 that some guys throw. Like.....I say that I'm consistently clearing 13 in wob now. Well, truth is, that's BS. I got 13 at Woodland, the MWC and Santa Cruz. That's three Games! Sure I got it about half the time last year, but is that really "consistent", when I missed 13 at Ardenwood and Bakersfield? Hardly. Now if I get 13 at Montery to make it four Games in a row, then I think I can say "consistently". How to get an result consistently over 4 consecutive Games (or maybe 4 out of 5) in a 10-game season? In a way it's just semantics. OK, end of threadjack! I bet you'll throw those numbers by the end of this season, like you say. But I'm guessing that it will be mid-season next year when you can say "consistently hit those numbers". By then your LWFD PR will be 85 or something ungodly huge like that, and your LH hammer will be 130+ or something! |

No problem Josh. Sorry it took 2 weeks I got off schedule. Of course I went off course today because I was lifting at Metroflex in Long Beach and did some hangs too. Weight might have been 120 on DB snatch.

Throwing HWFD x 7 LWFD x 12 WOB x 10 Everything seems to be coming together. HWFD is getting closer, LWFD was right at practice PR-76, and in WOB I hit some pretty good pulls for being tired. Stones and hammers tomorrow. |
