Throwing
HWFD x 6 - felt the best it ever has, no huge throws, but very smooth
LWFD x 6 - Really felt a solid drive- best at 76+ worst 73+-- feel really grooved in now
20lb Sheaf x 8 6/8 over 30' branch - feels good hope to hit it when it counts
WOB x 5 pulls
L hammer- x 6 no blades (heard no blades next weekend so took a couple without them) best of 113+ I think I am on the verge of a break through here. The event is starting to click and I hope it means big throws.
All in all a good week of training. One day of lifting and one day of throwing next week and then games on Saturday.

Throwing
Braemar x 4 best of 45+

LWFD x 5 best of 77-2 -very flat throw so I know there is a big one in there somewhere

Solid day, all throws are uphill- stones feel good, weights are solid, hammer is starting to feel really good, sheaf is a crap shoot- we will see what happens on Saturday with Ryan, Rusty, and Kearney

Monterey Games

Braemar
1. Me 42
2. Rusty 38?

Open Stone
1. Me 56
2 Rusty 49

HWFD
1. Rusty 39 (41 extras)
2. Ryan 37
3. Scott Hutchison 35
4. Kearney 34
5. Me 34

LWFD
1. Rusty 80
2. Ryan 79
3. Scott 76 (78 extras)
4. Me 72

Heavy Hammer-no blades allowed
1. Rusty 97
2. Scott 93
3. Me 92
4. Ryan 87

No light hammer- not enough room in arena

Caber -The Hook
1. Me 11:00
2. Ryan 85 degrees

20lb Sheaf (2 misses and out)
1. Scott 31 (took a couple shots at the WR)
2. Me and Rusty 28
4. Ryan 28

WOB
1. Scott, Rusty, and I all made 15 on 2nd attempt for the tie

Great day. Easy to see what events I need to keep working on. Stones were solid. HWFD just was not there today. I fouled my first LWFD out of the back- then I was thinking about it on the other two and I couldn't get a solid throw. Heavy Hammer was good, it would be nice to see what hammers would have been like today if we had grass (we threw off hard arena dirt) and boots. Caber was the most dramatic turn ever- it stopped, pointing straight up and stayed there for about a half hour, I jumped twice and yelled a couple of times before it fell over for the 11. Best caber I have turned to date. I hope someone has video of that! Sheaf was nice PR (I guess practice pays off sometimes) my 2 attempts at 31 were solid just not quite enough. WOB was tough. I came down on 15 on my first attempt- which ended up costing me the A class by a point the way it went down- and I rushed it at 16. Scott threw out of his mind all day and came up with some clutch throws and PRs in LWFD and WOB (open stone?). Great job Scott!!!

Thanks, John.  It was great throwing with you and hanging out.  You had a good day with your stones, sheaf PR, and caber it seemed like.  Everything else was very solid too.  I look forward to seeing you again in P-Town soon. :)

Figured someone would appreciate it...now if I said I did it in my sandals that would be a huge cause for concern.Wink

Hahahaha

My only concern would be that you didn't try sandals sooner.   Makes every rep 10% more fierce.

'Cause that is not relevant at all?

Whether it is optimal or even a good idea might be a valid question, but catching a lift on straight legs vs. in a half squat or a wide split of some kind is a very different thing, and therefore worthy of note.

I sure hope someone had a video of your Caber Toss Saturday!  I am an eye witness but I have never seen anyone stand a hooked caber like that one up on end like that and it sure DID feel like it stood straight up for a half an hour!!!

Cool at least I will score high on the artistic impression marks. I think I need to get a little lower and just keep grooving it in and it should go. BTW great job last weekend. Pleasanton is going to be a great comp.

That'll buy you another eight inches, you know? ...maybe even another foot.

My "42" HWFD is actually about 44 pounds when I team it up with a solid handle and some shackles. I set it up with a super-lightweight handle and a swaged wire link from the weight to the handle right before Ardenwood and now it's 42.5 but the handle is gonna get mashed and break really soon.  It'd be a great handle for a womens weight, so I don't want to bust it.    I think I'm going to cut the wire and just go back to throwing with a more solid handle and a super-big quick-link.  I'll just get a little bit stronger if I throw 2 pounds over weight, right?

Alan, I am not sure what the best way to figure out the difference in weight, but I guess if you figure out your LWFD pr 78 and subtract HW pr 36-6 you can figure that 28lbs means a loss of 41.5ft or 1.48ft/lb so if that is the case than I am actually losing 3.8ft. I am sure there is some kind of parabolic effect of weight on distance so I don't think it makes that much of a difference, but 2ft+ for sure. Whatever it is I need to throw it 5ft+ farther.
